The eruption spewed smoke and ash as high as 10km and forced an airport in a town near the Argentine border to be closed. Local residents reported the sulfur smell was terrible. Mountain ash even reached the city of Bariloche, Argentina which reported ashes falling like snowflakes.
Besides making a number of airports temporarily stop operations, volcanic eruptions also makes the main road that connects the Chile-Argentina was also closed. Chilean government ordered the evacuation of thousands of its citizens to prevent unwanted condition. The refugees are then placed in temporary storage locations.
There has been been known to mount between Puyehue, Cordon and Caulle that erupted. However, this is the first eruption since the mountain erupted last time in 1960. Chile is the second country that has the most volcanoes in the world.
There are no fewer than 3,000 volcanoes in Chile and 80 of who is still active volcano.
